The City of Pinson is deeply saddened by the passing of Mayor Joe Cochran. Mayor Cochran passed away on 09/20/2024 after a long, courageous battle with ALS. Mayor Cochran's passing leaves a void throughout the community, as he leaves behind a legacy of over two decades of tireless public service and unwavering commitment to the betterment of Pinson.
Joe Cochran served as Mayor of Pinson having first being elected to that position in 2020. He was originally elected to the City Council in 2004 where he served as a Councilmember from 2004 to 2016. Mayor Cochran was a life-long resident of Jefferson County, growing up in Fultondale and settling in Pinson until his passing.
Mayor Cochran’s visionary approach and dedication to the community's welfare earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, constituents, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. During his time on the City Council and as Mayor, Mayor Cochran was a strong advocate for economic development and quality of life in Pinson. Mayor Cochran was also a strong supporter of the schools, library, and parks in Pinson.
Today, we honor Mayor Cochran’s memory and his contributions to our city. Mayor Cochran’s wisdom, strength, and courage will continue to inspire future generations. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who were touched by his life.
